Model Slot Car Racing Lets You Be The Next Champ

Model slot car racing is a high speed, high fun hobby. It takes all the speed, thrills, and spills of real auto racing and reduces them to miniature size. This type of scale-model racing is performed inside, usually in a basement or game room. The initial expenditure for a model slot car racing kit is not large. Nor is it difficult to learn how to operate. Tiny electric model slot car racing dragsters race round and round at speeds fast enough to thrill any car or racing fan.

The three main components of a model slot car racing set are the cars, the track, and the controller system. The cars come in several miniature scales, such as 1:24, 1:32 and HO scale. Each car contains a small pin which protrudes beneath the car into a slot on the track. The car's electric motor draws electrical power from this slot. The slot also serves to steer the model slot car racing vehicles, although it is possible for cars to leave the track and crash around curves. Car sizes can range from 2-3 inches up to 5-6 inches, depending on the scale of the cars.

The model slot car racing track is composed of individual track pieces which are snapped together to create a continuous roadway. Each piece of track contains two or more slots which form continuous grooves when the entire track is assembled. The pin beneath each car connects to the electrical conductor in the slot. This powers the small but powerful electric motor inside the cars. Some model sot car racing tracks come with flat curves, while others have more realistic banked curves. It is important to match the scale of the car with that of the track being used. For example, HO scale cars need to race on an HO scale track.

The hand controllers and the transformer complete the model slot car racing set. The transformer is powered by regular strength household alternating current (AC). The unit converts the house AC to a smaller direct current (DC) for the cars. The transformer is wired to the track so that it powers the slots. The transformer on a model slot car racing track also has an electrical connection for each slot in the track. This enables the racers to pull the triggers on the handheld pistol grip controllers and make their cars speed up or slow down. Beginners at model slot car racing often make the mistake of holding the trigger at full speed, assuming this tactic will win the race. They quickly learn differently when their model slot car racing vehicle tumbles off the first curve it meets.

Model slot car racing is an excellent sport for anyone ages 6 years and older. Some the cars and parts can be quite small, depending on the scale. Therefore it is wise to prevent small children from participating in model slot car racing.
